Dawn jumps, her head jerking up from where it was resting on her folded arms, sending papers scattering every which way. She blinks, then rubs at her eyes. "What—what time is it?"
"Two in the morning," he replies. A poorly-suppressed smile is playing around the edges of his mouth. "I'm staging an intervention. I know this meeting tomorrow is important, but you won't do anyone any good unless you get some sleep beforehand."
"Proposal overruled," she mumbles, even though her eyes are already closing again.
"I move to reconsider the proposal."
"League rules state that if you want to override a Champion's veto it requires either a six-on-six battle, or Form 36A completed in duplicate and signed by at least three other League members," Dawn says through a yawn. She paws through the paperwork on her desk until she finds what she was working on, grimacing at the line of ink she left across the page when she had fallen asleep.
"I bet not even Cynthia could recite League documentation in her sleep," Lucas says. He's teasing, but there's admiration in his voice, too. The lack of pushback makes her pause, and when she looks up at him his eyes are fond. He leans over her, his mouth close to her ear as he murmurs, "But even champions need to sleep sometime."
When he takes her hand and tugs on it, she gets to her feet without complaint, sighing as he wraps his other arm around her shoulders. She leans into him as he guides her out of her office.
"Let's go home," he says.
"Okay," she murmurs back, her eyes already closing again.
