"Back home," Moon says, "there's snow."

Lillie is beside her. The night is warm, because Alolan nights always are; they sit on the dock of Poni's seaside town and listen to the waves. Most of Kanto touches the ocean but Moon is from inland, and even after her traveling for the Island Challenge, being close to the ocean still feels like a vacation, like something special. It's a feeling she associates with Lillie now, too: the warm fizzy feeling that starts in her stomach and rises up to her cheeks.

"Aether Paradise has some areas for ice-types, too," Lillie says. "But here on Alola, we don't really...well," she says with a small laugh, "Christmas trees are expensive. Real ones, I mean."

"Really? You see them everywhere in Kanto, whole forests of them..." Moon glances down at where their hands rest on the wooden slats. She could tiptoe her fingers over, could reach out and grab Lillie's hand, and it wouldn't even be the first time she's done it. But this moment feels odd; Lillie is frowning a little, out at the water. Moon doesn't want to push her luck.

"Do you still think of Kanto as your home?" Lillie asks, voice wistful.

Moon blinks. "What? No, I—oh, you mean what I said earlier? 'Back home,' it's just a saying."

Lillie cocks her head. "Do you miss snow?"

Moon leans back at that. She remembers snowball fights, falling in the snow and making snow angels, laughing. Lillie turns to her, watching her expressions.

"If I wanted snow," she says, "I could go to the top of Mount Lanakila."

Lillie doesn't respond. She looks so sad, and Moon hates it.

Moon leans in, reaches for Lillie's hand like she hesitated over a few moments ago, and tugs on it until Lillie's eyes meet hers again. "I love Alola," she says. "I love the pokémon, and the islands, and—you, a-and Hau. I never want to live anywhere else, okay?"

Lillie looks less sad, but she still searches Moon's face in her own calm, patient way. Then, she smiles. Moon smiles back, relieved.

"I'd like to see where you came from," Lillie says. "Even if you live here now. I'd like to see what it's like."

Moon blinks; the thought had never occured to her. "Sure, if you want! It'd be fun." Her mind races, thinking of Lillie in the snow, laughing with her cheeks flushed. With melting snowflakes sparkling in her hair she'd look—beautiful, she thinks, and swallows hard. "Really fun," she adds, a little lamely.

Lillie laughs. "Okay, it's a deal."
