May & Brendan
Life is easier when May is home. Chores are lighter with two people handling them, and the apartment feels bigger when the door to May's room is thrown open. They fall naturally into a routine of May fixing breakfast and Brendan cooking dinner, May flopping in Brendan's lap and updating her pokénav while Brendan sorts through the mail, warm-up battles on the route outside town before they head out for the day.
"I'm glad you moved to Hoenn," Brendan blurts out one day. They're on opposite sides of the living room, but the words have been awkwardly on his tongue for years now, and he always did have the worst timing.
He doesn't turn to see her expression, but he can hear the whisper of cloth as she gets up from the sofa. In the next moment she's propped her chin atop his head like a swablu coming to roost, forearms drooped over his shoulders.
"Me too," she says. "Want to come shopping with me?"
Brendan shifts his seat back and May straightens, easy. "Okay," he says, and any awkwardness he might have felt is gone when he tips his head back to look at May's smile.
